Executive Director
Under general direction the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for leadership and day-to-day management of a campus-wide Policy Institute (per agreement with the Chancellor) dedicated to leveraging university expertise to inform transportation, energy and environmental policy. Responsible for leading fundraising in collaboration with Cluster development staff, hiring and managing key staff, building a strong communications program in collaboration with Cluster communication staff, building a strong engagement program with government leaders, and collaborating with campus researchers. THIS CONTRACT APPOINTMENT WILL END TWO YEARS FROM THE DATE OF HIRE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION CONTINGENT UPON PERFORMANCE AND FUNDING.

Part-time Legal Fellow
The Institute of Transportation Studies and the UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment, and the Economy is looking to bring on a Legal Fellow with a background and interest in transportation law, innovation, and or business law. The Fellow will work part time (10-20 hours per week during the academic year) with the Policy Institute, in partnership with the Institution of Transportation Studies and other centers, to develop research insights and summary materials at the intersection of law and policy research. These include the "3 Revolutions" of transportation: shared mobility, autonomous vehicles, and electric vehicles, as well as other emerging topics. These issues involve federal, state, and local laws and policies and are evolving very rapidly. Desired skills and experience include legal analysis, strong writing skills, and policy interest in transportation issues.
DUTIES
The candidate will collaborate with Policy Institute staff and associated researchers on legal aspects of key transportation and environmental policy areas. This will include:
- Assisting in writing a white paper on automated vehicle regulations for state and federal regulators.
- Reviewing current and developing legislative activity (federal and state) and regulatory activities in the area of transportation innovation, safety, teleoperation, data collection, etc.. This will include but is not limited to regulatory activities by the California Public Utilities Commission, California Air Resources Board, US DOT, US EPA, and other relevant agencies.
- This may include helping to submit formal letters of comments to regulatory proceedings.
- Monitoring transportation case law and drawing linkages that can inform researchers and practitioners.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge, experience, and/or interest with one or more of the topics of innovation, transportation, and/or sustainable transportation. Candidates should have legal knowledge or experience, with a preference for enrolled students in the UC Davis School of Law.
Candidate should have strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel. Excellent organizational skills and strong writing skills are a must. The position encompasses a variety of assignments that involve independent decision-making, analysis, and writing. Fully capable working with Excel spreadsheets, Google Forms, and Adobe PDFs is required. Candidates must have the ability to work independently, must be detail-oriented, communicate in a clear and professional manner, meet short deadlines, and have the flexibility to change tasks, if necessary.

DESIRED MAJOR(S): A student enrolled in UC Davis Law school is the preferred candidate. Political Science students familiar with reviewing regulations or case law will also be considered.
