Sopitsuda (Sophie) Tongsopit

Bio: Sopitsuda (Sophie) Tongsopit is an energy policy analyst with the Policy Institute, where she provides analytical support on renewable energy, distributed energy resources, grid integration, utilities, and regulatory policy. Her research focuses on the interactions between electric vehicles and other types of distributed energy resources (DERs) and the evolving industry landscape of DER deployment. Prior to joining the Policy Institute in January 2019, Sophie worked as a consultant for USAID Clean Power Asia, providing technical assistance to the Philippines’ Department of Energy and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade on the design of compensation mechanisms to promote investment in rooftop solar systems. She was also a researcher at the Energy Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, where she led Thailand’s Solar PV Roadmap Initiative and advised Thailand’s Ministry of Energy on solar PV policy and regulatory designs. She earned a B.A. in Chemistry and Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College and Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
