On April 5, Austin Brown, Amber Mace, and Hannah Safford co-led a Policy Institute workshop at the 2018 UC Davis Research Expo.
The workshop, titled “Impact Through Policy: How to Build Connections and Guide Policy Based on Research,” provided UC Davis faculty, post-docs, staff, research administrators, and student researchers with an overview of policy processes at the national and sub-national levels. The workshop also highlighted opportunities for scientists and policymakers to work together to advance common objectives and recommended best practices for scientists to communicate effectively with policymakers and the public.
“Impact Through Policy” was one of three practical workshops offered at the Expo, and was closely aligned with this year’s Expo theme, “Pathways to Impact.” The Expo was attended by more than 500 people and included the participation of more than 40 units from across the Davis and Sacramento campuses, including the Policy Institute and the Institute of Transportation Studies.
